RAKSHA MANTRI TROPHY FOR THE YEAR 2010-2011

First time in its history, Sainik School Imphal has won the prestigious Raksha Mantri Trophy for the year 2010-2011 for sending the largest percentage of cadets amongst all Sainik Schools to the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Indian Naval Academy (INA). 25 cadets  out of 42 cadets of 33^rd SOULS passed the UPSC Written Test and 13 cadets joined NDA and INA. The glittering Trophy was presented to Col (Dr) Ravi Kumar, Principal, Sainik School Imphal by Hon’ble RRM Shri MM Pallam Raju during 41^st Sainik Schools Principals’ Conference at Sainik School Nagrota (J & K) on 05 Oct 2011.The School dedicates this trophy to all those who have worked tirelessly over the past four decades for the growth of the school.

VISIT OF HON’BLE CHIEF MINISTER, MANIPUR

Shri Okram Ibobi Singh, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Manipur, visited Sainik School Imphal on 02 December 2011 along with Shri Y Joykumar Singh, DGP, Govt of Manipur. During his visit, he interacted with Class XII cadets (34^thSOULS) and complimented their outstanding performance in UPSC Written Test for 128 Course of NDA. During the interaction, Hon’ble CM has assured to look into infrastructural problems of the school. The most highlighted issues that he  promised financial support are:  one multi-purpose indoor stadium, boundary wall for the entire campus, an Additional dormitory, a school bus out of JNURM; and shortage of staff quarters. The Hon’ble CM handed over a cash prize of 50,000 INR (rupees fifty thousand) to the cadets as a token of appreciation for qualifying the UPSC Examination.

UPSC WRITTEN EXAM: ALL TIME HIGH

Eighteen out of twenty four cadets of the school have passed the UPSC Written Test for entry to 128   Course  at  National  Defence  Academy, Pune. This year, pass percentage is 78% which is the highest recorded pass percentage of UPSC entrance examination since inception of the school.

FUNCTIONS AND CELEBRATIONS

63^RD LBA MEETING

63^rd meeting of Local Board of Administration of Sainik School Imphal was held on 27 July 2011 under the Chairmanship of Major General Binoy Poonnen, VSM, GOC 57 Mtn Div and Chairman of the LBA. The members reviewed road map of the school for the academic session 2011-2012 and various ongoing development projects. The members also expressed deep satisfaction over performance of the school in NDA, academics and co-curricular activities.

PARENTS’ GENERAL BODY MEETING : JUL 11

Parents’ General Body  Meeting was held on 31 July 2011 at Kangla Hall in which more than 360 parents of  Sainik School Imphal cdts participated. The key recommendations of the meeting were: to implement the ‘Cadets Code of Conduct’ and other already introduced measures to bring discipline, punctuality, healthy competition, love and respect for all and all round development of personality of cadets; speedy disposal of the new scholarship scheme; approval of new diet menu; etc. Parents also expressed happiness and satisfaction at unprecedented success story of the school in  CBSE results, Defence Officers’ entry results, sports and co-curricular activities.

MARTYRS’ DAY OBSERVED

Martyrs' Day was observed in the Manekshaw Auditorium of the school on 13 Aug 2011. Floral tributes were paid to the martyrs of Manipur who laid down their lives for the cause of liberation of our country from British Empire. To mark the occasion, a drama on ‘Bir Tikendrajit’ was performed by cadets of Class XI. The cynosure of the program was display of rare photographs of 1891 vintage.

65^TH INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS

Sainik School Imphal observed 65^th Independence Day with great zeal and fervour. Col (Dr) Ravi Kumar, the School Principal unfurled the national tri-colour at Roll Call Point and addressed the cadets reminding them about the supreme sacrifices made by our valiant freedom fighters. Besides, many activities like House-wise March Past, Speech Competitions sweets distribution, Bara-Khanna, etc were organised. Cash prizes and certificates were distributed by the Principal to the winners. A contingent of 86 school NCC cadets and Band also participated in the State Level Independence Day Celebrations held at 1^st Manipur Rifles, Imphal.

CHAIRMAN’S INTERACTION WITH PARENTS

An interaction meeting of the Chairman LBA, GOC 57 Mtn Div with the parents was held on 01 Oct 2011 in the Manekshaw Auditorium of the School. The main objective of this interaction was to conduct an open discussion on means and measures for optimal training of cadets’ and overall development of their personality. Parents suggestions and recommendations were well received for prompt action. All the parents were unanimous in appreciating the newly introduced measures to inculcate self discipline and self respect among the cadets.

SAINIK SCHOOL CELEBRATES 40^TH RAISING DAY

Sainik School Imphal celebrated its 40^th Raising Day with great zeal and enthusiasm on 07 Oct 2011. Maj Gen Binoy Poonnen, VSM GOC 57 Mtn Div and Chairman, LBA Sainik School Imphal presided over the function. To mark the celebrations, various entertainments programs and games were conducted for General Employees of the school in recognition of their invaluable contribution to the school. The special feature of the program was presentation of slide show of rare photographs of the school since 1971. On the occasion the LBA Chairman gave away prizes to outstanding cadets. The Best Award in Academics was given to Adm No 2721Cdt Parikshit Thoudam; Best in Sports Award was given to Adm No 2895 Cdt Ansar Mustafa; Best  in Co-Curricular Activities to Adm No D-201Cdt Cdt Miranda and Th Parikshit; and Best Cadet in Discipline, Drill & NCC to Adm No 2985 Cdt Manoranjan .

OLD BOYS’ DAY

First Old Boys’ Day was celebrated in the school by ex-students of Sainik School Imphal on 09 Oct 2011 (Sunday following the raising Day). During their stay these ex-students were accommodated in the dormitories of the school and they conducted activities like Morning PT, friendly Basketball Match ,healthy discussions, Bara Khanna etc., -  a reminiscence of  their days of stay in the School.

LECTURE ON NCC

A lecture on importance and activities of NCC was delivered by Lt Col Shanti Kumar Sapam of 14 Manipur NCC Bn in the Manekshaw Auditorium of the school on 26 Aug 2011. During his speech, he pointed out  the role of NCC in moulding discipline and career of youth in the country  especially towards Defence Services and participation in social activities. The school cadets from class VII to XI got the opportunity to interact with him during the programme.

WORLD FOOD DAY

As   a  part   of   observation   of   World    Food  Day Dr Tana Natung, a Post Graduate of RIMS and also an ex-student of this School delivered a speech on ‘Balanced Diet and Nutrition’ in the Manekshaw Auditorium of the school on 16 Oct 2011. During his speech, he spoke on importance of balanced diet in maintaining our health. The school cadets also got the opportunity to interact with the doctor.

RAKSHA MANTRI TROPHY  BARA KHANNA

A special ‘Manipuri Bara Khanna’ was organised by the school in the Cadets’ Mess on 25 Oct 2011 as a part of appreciation and recognition of performance of Class XII cadets in 126 NDA Course. Their excellent performance earned maiden prestigious Raksha Mantri Trophy for the year 2010-2011. The entire school is proud of this achievement.

MOTIVATIONAL EXHIBITIONS

Various sophisticated weapons were displayed in the Manekshaw Auditorium of Sainik School Imphal by 30 Assam Rifle Regiment, IGAR South on 24 July 2011.   The   main   aim   of   the   exhibition   was to motivate the cadets of the school to join Indian Armed Forces. Again on 30 July 2011, an Archery Demonstration was shown at the school football ground to introduce this sport in the school.

SCHOOL APPOINTMENTS

A system of rotation of Appointments was introduced from this Academic session on trail basis. Accordingly, cadet appointments were given rank badges during investiture ceremonies held on 11 July, 28 Sep  and 10 Nov 2011 in the school. Cadet appointments are rotated every three months with an aim to provide maximum opportunities and a platform to all senior cadets to develop leadership qualities.

ALL INDIA RADIO IMPHAL QUIZ

Programme conducted by All India Radio, Imphal on 24 Aug 2011. In this program, Sainik School Imphal bagged first position. The School team was represented by Adm No 2899 Cdt Md Shoaib Khan and Adm No 3239 Cdt Y Bhubanesh Meitei. The Quiz Programme was also broadcast on “Naharolgi Thoudang” of All India Radio, Imphal.

NATIONAL SCIENCE SEMINAR-2011

Adm No. 201Cdt Miranda Thoudam  made the Manipur State and Sainik School Imphal proud by bagging 2^nd position at National Science  Seminar 2011 organized by National Council of Museums at National Science Center at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on 30 Sep 2011. Out of 34 students representing various States and Union Territories in the competition, 10 (ten) participants including Cdt Miranda Thoudam were selected to visit Madam Curie’s Residence and Lab in Poland in 2012. In the Seminar, Cdt Miranda Thoudam represented the state of Manipur by qualifying the State Level Science Seminar held in Sep 2011. She was awarded with certificates, a memento, books and a cash prize of Rs 12,000/-.

SPORTS

EAST ZONE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

The school football teams- Under-14 and Under-17 ,brought laurels to the school by winning Championship Trophy in the East Zone Sainik Schools Football Championship held at Sainik School Goalpara,  Assam  in   July 2011.  The  school teams defeated other Sainik School Teams from West Bengal, Assam and Nagaland. Both school teams emerged as champion last year also.

ALL INDIA SAINIK SCHOOLS FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Defending Champion Sainik School Imphal retained its Championship Trophy by defeating all Zonal Champions in the Inter-Zonal Sainik Schools Football Championship held at Sainik School Sujanpur Tira, Himachal Pradesh from 23 Aug to 27 Aug 2011. During the tournament, both U-17 and U-14 teams defeated all other teams in every match of the tournament. Adm No 3024 Cdt Bikash (Class IX,) bagged the 'Best Player Award' of Under 14 with a tally of 11 goals.

SUBROTO MUKHERJEE CUP

This year again, Sainik School Imphal Football teams- being champions in Under-14 and Under-17 categories  in  Inter-zonal   Sainik   Schools  Football Championship, participated in the prestigious International Subroto Mukherjee Cup held from 04 Nov to 26 Nov 2011 at Delhi.

CROSS COUNTRY RACE

Sainik School Imphal conducted its Cross Country Race on 14 Nov 2011 with an aim to develop sportsmanship and unselfish teamwork amongst the cadets. Col (Dr) Ravi Kumar, the school Principal flagged off the race in which a total of 100 cadets from Netaji, Tagore, Raman and Shivaji Houses took part. In the Competition, Netaji House bagged the overall Championship Trophy. Adm No 2675 Cdt Talisunap Longkumar of Class XII  won the Winner Trophy while Adm No 2764 Cdt Bimolchand of Class XI and Adm No2955 Cdt Tadang Rai of Class X bagged the First and Second runners up respectively. The winners were awarded with medals, certificates and cash prizes.

INTER-HOUSE DRILL COMPETITION

Inter-House Drill Competition was held on 23 Nov 2011. The turnout and performance of participating cadets was reviewed by Officers from 30 Assam Rifles     and     Gp     HQs     NCC,     Imphal.    Overall Championship Trophy was bagged by Netaji House. For the Individual Competition, Adm No 2764 Cdt Bimolchand Class XI and Adm No 2822 Cdt Luckyson Class XI of Tagore House secured first and second position respectively.

37TH ANNUAL ATHLETIC MEET 2011-2012

37^th Annual Athletic Meet 2011-2012 of the School was inaugurated on 12 Dec 2011 with the sacred flame brought from Tulihal Airport Imphal where the school was first established on 07 Oct 1971 by cdts of 34 th SOULS. Brig BK Chand, Deputy General Officer Commanding, 57 Mtn Div chaired the Opening Ceremony as Chief Guest. To mark the Ceremony, Mass PT and March Past were displayed by the school cadets. On the Closing Day Ceremony on 16 Dec 2011, Shri I Hemochandra Singh, Hon’ble Speaker, Member of Legislative Assembly, Govt of Manipur and Dr N Bijoy Singh, Hon’ble MLA, Khurai Kendra Imphal presided as Chief Guest and President of the function respectively,and distributed prizes to the winners. Best House Trophy in Athletics 2011 was bagged by Tagore House while Raman House won Overall Best House Trophy in Games and Sports 2011. Adm No 3086Cdt Nehru Tokpam  of Tagore House took Best Athlete (Jr) while the duo of Adm No 2807 Cdt Imran and Adm No 2841Cdt Ajitkumar were adjudged Best Athletes (Sr).

As a routine affair, Sainik School Imphal organises picnics at various historical places in the state. Such picnics are organised class wise with an aim to provide knowledge and motivation to the cadets.

Befitting farewell party was given to Mr MH Khan, Master in Biology and Senior Master, Mr Suresh K, Asst Master in Maths and Sub ST Thang on 24 Sep 2011. Mr MH Khan superannuated after rendering 35 years of meritorious service in the school while Sub ST Thang has moved on posting to 5 Assam. Farewell parties were also given to Mr K Samden Singh and Mr Ash Mohamed who retired on 31 Aug 2011 and 01 Sep 2011 respectively.
