VISITS SAINIK SCHOOL IMPHAL
|
Union
Minister of State for Defence Shri MM Pallam Raju and Chairman, Board of
Governors of Sainik Schools Society visited Sainik School Imphal on 12 Nov
2010. The Hon’ble Minister reviewed the progress of ongoing development
projects. He inspected various facilities of the school like Computer Lab,
Language Lab and Cadets’ Dormitories. He also interacted with cadets and
complimented them for their overall improvement in various spheres of
educational excellence. During the interaction, he exhorted the cadets to work
harder and realize their dream of joining Indian Armed Forces through NDA entry
scheme.

39TH
RAISING DAY
|
Sainik School Imphal celebrated
39th Raising Day with great pomp and show on 07 Oct 2009. Shri L Jayantakumar
Singh, Hon'ble Minister of Education and Transport, Govt of Manipur presided
over the function. On arrival of the Chief Guest, an impressive Guard of Honour
was presented by NCC cadets of the school. The celebrations started with
inauguration of Science & Arts Exhibition by Brig RS Grewal, Deputy GOC 57
Mtn Div on 06 Oct 2010. Defence equipment of Assam Rifles and various working
models made by school cadets were displayed in the exhibition. A variety
entertainment program was also presented by the cadets to showcase their talent
and artistic skills. On this auspicious occasion, the Hon'ble Minister gave
away awards and prizes to the cadets for their achievement in academics and
co-curricular activities.

FIRST
RED SHIELD CHAMPIONSHIP
|
Sainik School Imphal clinched the inaugural trophy of Red
Shield Championship organized by 57 Mtn Div, Leimakhong from 01 Sep to 09 Sep
2010. Six leading schools in the state namely Sainik School Imphal, Kendriya
Vidyalaya Leimakhong, JNV Khumbong, Manipur Public School,
Don Bosco High School,
Chingmeirong and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Lamphel participated in the championship
in four disciplines i.e. Quiz, Debate, Football and Basketball. During the
championship, Sainik School Imphal won the Co-curricular Championship
Trophy. Also,
Sainik
School
Imphal
took the Championship Trophy in Football and Basketball by defeating all teams
in every match during the tournament. In the Closing Ceremony function presided
over by Major General DS Hooda, VSM** GOC 57 Mtn Div and Chairman, LBA of
Sainik School Imphal, prizes and certificates were distributed to the winners
and other participants. The championship is organized to give a platform to the
students of different schools to showcase their sportsmanship and talent as
well as provide an opportunity to interact.

LBA
MEETING
|
62nd
meeting of Local Board of Administration of Sainik School Imphal was held on 02
Dec 2010 under the Chairmanship of Major General DS Hooda, VSM** GOC 57 Mtn Div
and Chairman of LBA. The members reviewed the functioning of the school for the
academic session 2009-2010 and various ongoing development projects. The
members also expressed deep satisfaction over performance of the school in NDA,
academics and co-curricular activities.

NATIONAL
SCIENCE SEMINAR 2010
|
Cdt Parikshit Thoudam (Class X, Adm No 2721) of Sainik School
Imphal bagged second position out of ten selected participants in the National
Science Seminar 2010 held on 08 Oct and 09 Oct 2010 at Visvesvaraya Industrial
and Technological Museum (VITM), Bangalore. It was organized by National
Council of Science Museum in collaboration with ISRO, BHEL, HAL, Astra Zeneca,
Biocon and Infosys. He represented the state of Manipur after qualifying both
District and State Level Science Seminars. All qualified participants will be
called for screening at Kolkata to select the
representative
of
India in
the International Science
Seminar
to be
held at
Seoul, South Korea. Cdt
Parikshit Thoudam was awarded with Certificate,
Memento
and a
scholarship
of
Rs 1000/- for one year.

NTSE
SCHOLARSHIP
|
Cdt Phasang Pama (Class IX, Adm No 2922), Cdt
Lamtar Nasi (Class IX, Adm No 2943) and Cdt Kirong Apang (Class IX, Adm No
2958) of Sainik School Imphal have made the state of Manipur proud by
qualifying for award of NTSE scholarship (class VIII) held on 03 Aug 2010 at
Shillong. Each successful cadet will now get Rs 6000/- per annum as scholarship
up to Class XII, subsequently enhanced and awarded up to PhD @ JRF & SRF
level stipend per month.

INDIA SAINIK SCHOOLS FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
|
Sainik
School
Imphal
became
the
Champion
of Champions by
defeating
all
zonal champions,in
the Inter-Zonal Sainik Schools Football Championship held at Sainik School
Punglwa, Nagaland from
26 Aug
to 30 Aug 2010.
During the Championship, both
U-17 and U-14 teams defeated
all other teams in every match of the tournament. Cdt Joychand (Class IX, Adm
No 3003) bagged the 'Best Scorer Award' with a tally of 12 goals. The school
teams qualified to participate in the Championship by emerging Champion in the
East Zone Sainik Schools Football Championship held at Sainik School Purulia,
West Bengal in July 2010.

ZONE QUIZ COMPETITION
|
In
East Zone Sainik Schools Quiz Competition held in Sainik School Purulia, West
Bengal in July 2010, the school Quiz Team won Championship Trophy. The school
Quiz Team was represented by Cdt Lamtar Nasi (Class IX, Adm No 2943) and Cdt
Nani Tabin (Class X Adm No 2783).

UPSC
WRITTEN EXAM
|
Twenty
four (24) out of thirty nine (39) cadets of the school passed the UPSC Written
Test for entry to 126 Course at National Defence Academy. This year pass
percentage is 61.5%. This is the highest recorded since inception of the
school. The passed cadets have been given guidance-cum-orientation for SSB
interviews to be held from January 2011 onwards.

FEST 2010

Cadets of Sainik
School Imphal brought laurels to school by becoming winners in Debate and
Ex-tempore Speech Competitions in the IT Fest 2010 organized by Computer
Science Department, Manipur University

with

Technology, Govt of Manipur from 17 Sep to 19 Sep 2010. In Debate (Category-A),
Cdt Parikshit Thoudam (Class X, Adm No 2721), Cdt Rizwan Malik
(Class XII, Adm No 2515), Cdt Molangam Pashel (Class

bagged
1st, 2nd
and 3rd
positions respectively while Cdt Yumlam Pulu (Class XII, Adm No 2562), Cdt
Vanlalhmachhuana (Class XII, Adm No 2523) and
Cdt John Sailo (Cass XII, Adm No 2970) were adjudged 1st, 2nd
and 3rd respectively in Ex-tempore Speech Competition. The winners
were awarded with cash prizes and certificates.

DEBATE
AND QUIZ COMPETITION BY SSIAA
|
Inter-school
Debate and Quiz competitions were held on 24 Oct 2010 in the Manekshaw
Auditorium of the school with Maj Gen CA Krishnan, IGAR (South) presiding over
the function. The competitions were organized by Sainik School Imphal Alumni
Association for giving an opportunity to the participants from different
schools to showcase their talent and to interact amongst them. In Quiz, JNV
Khumbong & Herbert School, K M Blooming English School & HRD Academy
and Herbert School & KV Langjing bagged 1st, 2nd and
3rd positions respectively while Mt Zion English School, Senapati,
Don Bosco Maram and Sainik School Imphal & HRD Academy secured 1st,
2nd and 3rd positions respectively in Debate Competition.

IMPHAL OBSERVED MARTYRS’ DAY
|
Sainik School Imphal observed
Martyrs' Day on 13 Aug 2010 at the school Kangla Hall. Group Captain Surinder
Singh, former Principal of the school, Staff and cadets paid floral tributes to
the martyrs who laid down their lives for the cause of liberation of our
country from British Empire. The special feature of the program was display of
rare photographs taken during the year 1891. To mark the auspicious occasion,
Inter-House Quiz Competitions both for Junior and Senior categories were
organized. In the Senior category, Cdt Dhanakumar (Class XII, Adm No 2584) and
Cdt Haokhulen (Class XII, Adm No 2569) of Tagore House stood 1st while
Cdt Nongpoknganba (Class IX, Adm No 2889) and Cdt Marli (Class IX, Adm No 2954)
of Shivaji House secured 1st position in the Junior category.

BAND DISPLAY BY AR JAZZ BAND
|
A mesmerizing band display was presented by Jazz Band Party of
39 Assam Rifles at the school basketball court on 06 Oct 2010 in connection
with 39th Raising Day Celebration. The aim of the show was to
inculcate the passion and appreciation for military music.

VIRASAT SERIES BY
SPICMACAY
|
A group of two musicians led by Grammy Award Winner Pandit
Vishwa Mohan Bhatt gave a mesmerizing performance at the
school Kangla Hall on 04 Aug 2010. The famous
‘Mohan Bina’ was played by the band of musicians which enthralled the audience.
Again on 27 Oct 2010, three Hindustani Classical musicians and singers led by
Pt Sandipan Samajpati gave a scintillating performance on classical songs,
recitals and famous Khayal and Thumri in the Manekshaw Auditorium. Such
programmes are organized by the school as a part of Virasat Series 2010-11 by
SPICMACAY, Imphal Chapter to promote Indian Classical Music, Dance and Culture
amongst youth.

VISIT BY ASSAM RIFLES SCHOOL
|
Students of Assam Rifles School, Keithel Manbi along with
staff visited Sainik School Imphal on 09 July 2010. The main purpose of the
visit was to interact with the school cadets. They also witnessed facilities of
the school viz. Language Lab, Computer Lab, Dormitories and Cadets’ Mess.

PICNIC AT LEIMAKHONG
|
Cadets of
Sainik School Imphal accompanied by Wg Cdr E Srinivas, Headmaster and Maj Anand
Thoudam, Registrar and staff had a picnic at Army HQ 57 Mtn Div, Leimakhong on
10 Sep 2010. The picnic was organized as a part of recreation and to break the
monotony of the cadets. During the picnic, the cadets were given short lectures
by the Flight Officers of Indian Army about the helicopters. A lunch was
organized at the Guest House and a Hindi movie ‘We are Family’ was also
screened in the Red Shield Auditorium.

TOWARDS BETTER LIVING

RENOVATION
OF MANEKSHAW AUDITORIUM & LABs
|
A complete renovation of roofing,
ceiling, electrical wiring and flooring of Manekshaw Auditorium and all
labs (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) has been carried out under Central
Assistance Project funded by Ministry of Defence, Govt of India at a cost of Rs
11,76,200/- and Rs 10,42,000/- respectively.

CONSTRUCTION OF SCHOOL GATE & GRILL BOUNDARY
|
New school gate has
been constructed at a cost of Rs 10,75,500/-
under Central Assistance Project funded by Ministry of Defence. Construction of
Grill Boundary around the gardens has been completed at a cost of
Rs 8,38,000/-.

WELCOME
|
To Col Ravi Kumar, new Principal of Sainik School Imphal. He
joined the school from HQ 33 Corps on 19 Oct 2010. The officer was commissioned
into Army Education Corps in Dec 1987. With academic qualification of MSC, M
Ed, MPhil and PhD (JNU) the new Principal is bound to take the school to new
pinnacle of glory. The officer has served in various Defence Establishments
like NDA, IMA, AEC Trg College and Centre, Brigade and Corps HQS.

STAFF CLUB MEET
|
Staff club
get-together was held on 30 Oct 2010. Staff and family members displayed their
talent and skill making the evening highly entertaining. On the occasion,
teachers also presented songs and a variety entertainment adding
colour to the festive mood.

|
Befitting
farewell party was given to Group Captain Surinder Singh, Principal of the
school on 04 Sep 2010. Group Captain Surinder Singh has moved to Sainik School
Sujanpur Tira as Principal.
Farewell
parties for Mr H Mangi Singh, Lab Asst (Chemistry Dept) Mr H Nobinchand, Senior
Master (Master in English) were also given on 30 Sep 2010 and 30 Nov 2010
respectively. Sri H Nobinchand and Mr H Mangi Singh retired from service on
attaining the age of superannuation.
Mr MS Giri
and Mr H Mani (General Employees) superannuated on 30 Sep 2010 and 31 Oct 2010
respectively.
