LBA MEETING
61st meeting of Local Board of Administration of Sainik School Imphal was held on 28 Apr 2010 under the Chairmanship of Major General DS Hooda, VSM** GOC 57 Mtn Div and Chairman of LBA. The members reviewed the functioning of the school for the academic session 2009-2010 and worked out road map for the session 2010-2011. The members also expressed deep satisfaction over performance of the school in NDA, academics and co-curricular activities.
WORLD HEALTH DAY
To mark the World Health Day 2010, an Open Painting Competition on “Urban Health Matters” was organized in the school on 07 Apr 2010. In this connection, an awareness programme was also conducted in the school auditorium on 10 April 2010 under the aegis of Indian Medical Association. A team of experts led by Dr Kh Palin, President of Indian Medical Association, Manipur State Branch and also Chairman of Shija Hospital and Research Institute, Imphal visited the school and gave a series of lecture to sensitize the cadets about various health problems caused by urbanization and its impact on environment. The school cadets got an opportunity to interact with the experts. Later prizes were distributed to the winners of the Painting Competition by Dr Palin.
NDA RESULT
Out of twenty seven cadets of the school who passed the Union Public Service Commission written test for entry to 124 Course at National Defence Academy, Pune, six cadets were recommended by Service Selection Boards. Five cadets have finally joined NDA this year.
CBSE RESULT
The students of the school excelled in the CBSE Secondary School Examination 2010 with pass percentage of 100% and AISSE School Certificate Examination 2010 with 92%. Cdt Roshan Kumar (Adm No 2460) topped with 80.2% in class XII while five cadets namely Cdt Hento Riba (Adm No 2668), Cdt W Rocky (Adm No 2638), Cdt K Dolin (Adm No 3037), Cdt Y Chingkhei (Adm No 2649) and Cdt Mohsin Khan (Adm No 2643) topped with 9.6 CGPA in class X.
2010 JUNIOR COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP
Cdt W Rocky has been selected for 2010 Junior College Scholarships for further studies at Global Indian International School, Singapore, Queenstown sponsored by ‘Global Indian Foundation’. He is the only one selected from Manipur State.

The school organizes Essay Writing Competition for class VI to class X once in a month to improve writing skills of cadets. Prizes are also given to the winners. Result of the first competition is given below:-

VISIT TO PACHMARHI
A contingent of 41 Cadets from Class X visited the prestigious National Adventure Institute of Bharat Scouts and Guides, Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh from 24 Apr to 30 Apr 2010 under the guidance of Mr PD James, Asst Master and Sub ST Thang. The cadets attended the 234th National Adventure Course and participated in various activities like Trekking, Boating, Horse Riding, Rock Climbing, Rifle Shooting, Archery, Skating, etc. They also got an opportunity to interact with students from other schools of the country.
VISIT TO SHIJA HOSPITAL
A group of 60 cadets from class IX visited Shija Hospital and Research Institute, Langol, Imphal on 12 Apr 2010. The cadets got an opportunity to interact with renowned Dermatologist Dr Kh Palin, Chairman and a team of Doctors. The experts briefed the cadets about their cutting edge, state of the art technology - Bio-medical Waste (BMW) Management Plant to keep our environment safe and clean.
VISIT TO SHILLONG
An educational tour was organized to 58 GTC (Gurkha Training Centre) and HQ of Eastern Air Command at Shillong from 28 Feb to 05 Mar 2010 in which 60 cadets from class VII took part under the guidance of Mr Y Somen Singh, Asst Master and Sub ST Thang. The main purpose of such tours is to motivate the cadets to join Defence Services. The cadets interacted with Senior Officers from Army and Air Force.
INTERACTION VISIT
48 students along with one staff from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Khumbong, Imphal West visited the school on 01 Feb 2010. The main purpose of the visit was to motivate the students to join Defence Services. Mr Premananda, Asst Master in Mathematics of this school delivered a lecture on various activities conducted in the school. They also interacted with our cadets and witnessed school’s Language Lab and other facilities.
CHILDREN HOME VISITS SAINIK SCHOOL
A group of 32 children and four staff from Children Home, Dewlahland, Imphal run by Manipur Mahila Kalyan Samiti visited Sainik School Imphal on 15 April 2010. As part of their maiden visit to the school, friendly matches (football and volleyball) were organized in the school ground. A movie (Surya Kiran) was screened in the Manekshaw Auditorium of the school followed by an interaction session which was presided over by the school Principal. A grand dinner was also organised in the Sekhon Cadets’ Mess. Earlier, the cadets and staff led by Gp Capt Surinder Singh, Principal of the school and Mrs Surinder Singh visited the Children Home on 13 April 2010.
STRESS MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME
A stress management program was conducted in the school auditorium on 25 Jan 2010. A team of experts led by renowned Psychiatrist, Dr Lenin, Professor in Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal gave a series of lectures on various factors which cause stress among adolescents. The school cadets keenly interacted with the experts.
SCHOOL PICNIC
The school organised a picnic to Singda Dam for school staff and their families along with Group Captain Surinder Singh, Principal of the school on 02 May 2010. Various entertainment activities like dance & music, tambola, musical chair, etc. were organised on the occasion followed by bara khana (Lunch) at the state Guest House.
VIRASAT SERIES BY SPICMACAY
A group of six Rajasthani Sufi singers led by the renowned artist Sri Jamil Khan gave a scintillating performance in the Manekshaw Auditorium of the school on 19 April 2010. The band of musicians and singers presented melodious and soulfull songs of love, worship and praise of God which enthralled the audience. Such programs are organized by the school as part of Virasat Series under the aegis of SPICMACAY, Imphal Chapter to promote Indian Classical Music, Dance and Culture amongst youth.
SCHOOL CADETS AT 57 MTN DIV
Cdt Parikshit, (Adm No 2721) of Class X participated in the Seminar on the theme “Conflict Resolution in Manipur” organized by 57 Mtn Div, Leimakhong on 15 Mar 2010. The seminar was presided over by Lt Gen NK Singh, AVSM, VSM, GOC 3 Corps. The participants and resource persons spoke on various measures to curb the menace of insurgency. The views expressed by Cdt Parikshit were deeply appreciated by one and all especially GOC.
REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATIONS
61st Republic Day was celebrated in the school premises with enthusiasm and fervor. The school Principal unfurled the national tri-color and addressed the cadets reminding them of the supreme sacrifices made by the country’s great freedom fighters. Many activities like pledge taking, sweets distribution and Bara-Khana were organized. On the auspicious occasion, the Principal pipped Mr L Manoranjan Roy, Asst Master in General Science to the rank of Third Officer as an Associate NCC Officer. A contingent of 70 cadets and school band party also participated in the state level Republic Day Celebration held at 1st Manipur Rifles.
SCIENCE MEET 2010
Cdt Parikshit (Adm No 2721) of class X participated in the Science Meet 2010 organized by Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC) in collaboration with NCSTC and other four NGOs from 11 May 2010 to 15 May 2010 at Imphal. In the English Declamation Competition conducted as part of the Meet, he was adjudged as the Best speaker. He spoke on the topic “Biodiversity with Special Reference to Manipur.”
“BIRTHDAY” OF CLASS XII CELEBRATED
“Birthday” of Class XII was celebrated on 15 Jun 2010 in Sekhon Cadets’ Mess with great pomp and show. As a corollary to this, a grand dinner was organized. On the auspicious day, Major Anand Thoudam, new Registrar of the school, was introduced to the cadets.
NTSE SCHOLARSHIP
Eight cadets of class IX namely Cdt Kirong Apang (Adm No 2953), Cdt Lamtar Nasi (Adm No 2943), Cdt Phasang Pama (Adm No 2922), Cdt Rahul Dui (Adm No 2952), Cdt Vikash Arambam (Adm No 2881), Cdt Nokpoknganba Khaidem (Adm No 2889), Cdt Kirpa (Adm No 2879) and Cdt Kosiso Maniyu (Adm No 2957) qualified the Test for National Talent Search Examination 2010 conducted at Imphal, Manipur.
REVISION OF SCHOLARSHIP: A BOON FOR NEEDY CADETS

The State Govt has revised the scholarship scheme for Manipuri students. According to the new scheme, students from Manipur scoring 85% and above in Entrance Exam for admission to Class VI or Annual Exam will be given 100 % (Tuition & Dietary Charges) scholarship. The scholarship has been revised after personal intervention of Hon’ble Chief Minister after one and half decades. The Govt of Manipur will be spending around Rs 1.91 crores annually as per revised scholarship.

TOWARDS BETTER LIVING
SCHOOL BUS
After 37 years of its existence, the school got a new 52 seater Tata Bus on 18 Mar 2010. Earlier the cadets had to travel either in school truck or hired buses. With the arrival of School Bus, the cadets will now be able to participate in various activities conducted in and around Manipur. Pooja ceremony on its arrival was performed on 18 Mar 2010.
POWER LINE FROM VIP GRID: A DREAM COME TRUE
A dedicated power line was laid from VIP Grid, Khuman Lampak to the school at the cost of Rs 35 lacs under a Special Project of the State Govt. It was commissioned on 28 June 2010. With uninterrupted power supply to the entire school, the quality of life of staff and cadets has undergone complete transformation. We are deeply indebted to the Hon’ble Chief Minister and Power Minister of the state for this special project. Earlier the school got power supply for not more than 2/3 hours in 24 Hrs.
RENOVATION OF STAFF QUARTERS
With an aim to improve the living conditions, 58 staff quarters were renovated under a Special Project of the State Govt. This large scale renovation work was carried out after 37 years of existence of school. We are indeed indebted to the Govt of Manipur for undertaking this huge project.

WELCOME
To Wg Cdr E Srinivas, new Headmaster of Sainik School Imphal. Wg Cdr E Srinivas joined the school from 11 BRD, Air Force Station Ojhar (Nashik) on 28 Jun 2010. Commissioned on 15 Jun 1991, he has held many staff and field appointments before joining the school as Headmaster. To Maj Anand Singh Thoudam, new Registrar of Sainik School Imphal. Maj Anand Singh Thoudam has served in different states like the Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Hyderabad, Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh on deputation to Assam Rifles. He is also an ex-student of Sainik School Imphal. He joined the school in 1989 and passed out in 1996 as House Captain of Netaji House.

A Befitting Farewell party was given for the outgoing Headmaster, Lt Col CJ Singh, Hav KH Raju Singh, PTI and Mrs FM De Monte, Matron on 28 May 2010. Lt Col CJ Singh has moved to Recruiting Directorate, New Delhi while Hav KH Raju Singh has been posted to AIPT & APTC Depot, Pune. Mrs FM De Monte superannuated after rendering 23 years of commendable service in the school.
