HON’BLE CHIEF MINISTER VISITS ON RAISING DAY
The School celebrated its 37th Raising Day on 07 Oct 08. Hon’ble Chief Minister of Manipur Shri Okram Ibobi Singh was the Chief Guest at the function while Shri L. Jayantakumar Singh, Hon’ble Education Minister was the President. Shri E. Kunjeswar Singh MLA, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission, Shri E. Dwijamani Singh MLA, Chairman of Pollution Control Board, Dr. N. Bijoy Singh, MLA and Brig Sarbjit Singh, Dy GOC 57 Mountain Division were among the galaxy of VIPs at the function. A large number of alumni along with their families also participated in the celebrations. The Chief Minister announced various projects like water supply, dedicated power line, renovation of existing dormitories, black topping of roads etc. to improve the quality of life and training infrastructure.
MAIDEN VISIT OF CHAIRMAN LBA
The 37th Annual Day of the School was celebrated on 13 Dec 08 with great zeal and gaiety. Maj Gen Shakti Gurung VSM, GOC 57 Mountain Division and Chairman LBA of the school presided over the function. A Science and Art Exhibition was organised by the school cadets. The highlight of the celebrations was the First ever Defence Equipment display under the aegis of Head Quarters 57 Mtn Div to motivate the cadets towards career in Armed Forces. A two hour colourful extravaganza unfolded itself in the form of cultural programme in which the cadets displayed their talent and skills.
INTER-HOUSE ENGLISH DEBATE COMPETITION
Inter House English Debate for Senior & Middle wings was organised on 07 Jul 08 on the topics “India Should Sign Indo-US Nuclear < Deal” and “Animals Should Be Used for Scientific Experimentation” respectively. The young speakers mesmerised the audience with their communication skills and knowledge. The results are as follows:

VISIT TO RAJ BHAWAN
a group of ninety six cadets of class  XI and XII along with six teachers accompanied by the Principal, got the privilege to meet the then Governor of Manipur, His Excellency, Dr SS Sidhu at Raj Bhawan, Imphal on 15 Jul 08. During interaction with the cadets, His Excellency advised them to work with dedication for the progress of the nation. He narrated his experiences as a bureaucrat as representative of India to the UN. It was indeed an enriching experience for the young cadets.
EAST ZONE SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIP
Sixty six cadets from the school participated in the East Zone Sainik Schools Sports and Co-Curricular Championship which was hosted by Sainik School, Goalpara in Assam from 21 Jul- 23 Jul 08.  The determined cadets of Sainik School Imphal dominated almost all the events.  The school came back victorious with overall Championship Trophy. Cdt Roshankumar was adjudged as Best Disciplined Cadet during the Championship.
OBESITY CHECK

A study team from Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) visited the school to sensitise the cadets on the issue of obesity on 27 July 08. The school staff and their families were examined by a team of medics.

AERO MODELLING SHOW
No.1 NCC (Air Wing) Imphal conducted an Aero-Modelling show on 30 Jul 08 in the school football ground to motivate the cadets for career as aviators. The school has opened its own Aero Modelling Club.
WORLD WIDE FUND FOR NATURE-EDUCATION PROGRAMME
An environment education programme was organised by the World Wide Fund for nature on 01 Aug 08. A Painting Competition & Model Making on issues like Global Warming, Deforestation, Melting of Glaciers and Pollution were held.  Screening of Educational films and videos on Green House Gas Emissions were the highlight of the proceedings. Prof. E.J. Singh and Prof. Asha Gupta from Manipur University delivered lectures on global environment changes.
INTER-HOUSE ENGLISH DECLAMATION COMPETITION

Many eminent personalities of the past came to life as cadets   delivered    memorable   speeches     of   great personalities like Nelson Mandela, Swami Vivekananda, Brutus, Mark Antony, Hitler etc on 09 Aug 08. The result of the competition is as follows:

TREE PLANTATION BY ROTARY CLUB
A massive tree plantation drive was organised by Rotary Club, Imphal at the School campus on 10 Aug 08. The programme started with the arrival of about 25 Rotarians led by its President Dr. Kh. Pallin from Rotary Club. More than 2000 saplings were planted in the school premises including a number of ornamental and fruit bearing ones.

ALL INDIA SAINIK SCHOOL INTER-ZONAL FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

The football team (U-17) of Sainik School Imphal did the school as well as the State of Manipur proud by emerging as the winner for 7th year in succession during  All  India  Sainik  Schools Football Championship held at Sainik School Kunjpura (Haryana) from 25 Aug-28 Aug 08. Sainik School Imphal became the Champion of the Champions by defeating South Zone Champion, Sainik School Korukonda by 4-0, Central Zone Champion, Sainik School Bhubaneshwar by 4-1, West Zone Champion, Sainik School Rewa by 4-2 and North Zone Champion, Sainik School Sujanpur Tira by 6-0. Cadet Lalhriatpuia of Class X was declared Best Player. Thereafter the team represented Sainik Schools Society, Ministry of Defence in the prestigious Subroto Mukerjee Football Tournament at New Delhi.  Cadet Karaiba was awarded one time scholarship of Rs. 20,000 by Subroto Mukerjee Sports Education Society.

“VIRAASAT” SERIES BY SPICMACAY
The school has now been made a Sub-Chapter of SPICMACAY  (Society  for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth) with an aim to create awareness about Indian art, music and culture. As part of “VIRAASAT” series,   Dr. Teejan Bai, Pandvani singer of international repute gave a scintillating performance in the school auditorium on 26 Aug 08. Padmashree Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, creator of the Mohan Veena and winner of Grammy Award also performed in the school on 25 Sep 08.
FREE MEDICAL CAMP BY ROTARY CLUB

A Free Medical Camp was organised under aegis of Rotary Club, Imphal at the school in Aug 08. A team of 22 doctors, nurses and technicians led by Dr. Kh. Pallin, President of Rotary club carried out medical check-up and rendered free health care advice.  More than 700 students, staff & their families and a number of villagers from the nearby areas drew benefit from the camp.

NATIONAL TALENT SEARCH EXAMINATION
Cadets of the school performed brilliantly at the National Talent Search Examination conducted by the NCERT Ministry of Human Resource Development in Sept 08. Eight cadets were selected for scholarship.
YOGA CLASSES
Yoga classes have been introduced for the cadets from the month of Oct 08 to overcome stress and anxiety. Meditation sessions to relax body and mind are organised under a qualified instructor to enhance concentration power of the cadets.
SCHOOL CADETS EXCEL
In the Inter-school Debate Competition conducted by Manipur State Police during Oct 08, school captain Cdt Rojer Irom and Cdt N. Makjal bagged Second and Third positions and won a sum of Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 5,000 respectively. In the Science Competition, Cdt W. Rocky Singh and Cdt Michael Sukham bagged First and Third positions  and  won  a  sum  of Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 5,000 respectively. Cdt Rocky again bagged Third position in Social Science Competition and won a sum of Rs. 5,000.
CROSS COUNTRY

The school conducted its Cross Country Race on 07 Nov 08. The Principal flagged off the race in which 180 students from Manipur,  Mizoram,  Nagaland,  Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and neighbouring country, Bhutan took part. Cdt Tatem Taki was the winner. Cdt Khangamtha and Cdt Hage Sera were the First and Second runners up respectively.

DRILL COMPETITION
Inter House Drill Competition was conducted on 13 Nov 08 in the school premises. Drill instructors from the prestigious Manipur Police Training School (MPTS) reviewed the turnout and performances of participating cadets. For the Senior Division, Cdt Roger Irom of Netaji House bagged First position and Cdt Vikramjit of Raman House was placed at  Second position. For Junior Division, Tagore House was adjudged First while Raman House secured Second position followed by Shivaji and Netaji Houses.
RESULT OF UPSC WRITTEN EXAM
Twenty two cadets of the school qualified the Union Public Service Commission Exam for entry to 122 Course at National Defence Academy. This is an all time record in the history of the school with a pass percentage of 68.75%.
NDA TOUR
A contingent consisting of 28 cadets and two staff members of the school went on a tour to National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, Pune to witness the Passing Out Parade (POP) held on 29 Nov 08. They also visited Air Force Station at Pune and Science City, Victoria Memorial and an Infantry Battalion in Kolkata during the tour.
ANNUAL ATHLETIC MEET
Torch rally, impressive display of acrobatics and March Past marked the Opening Ceremony of the 35th Annual Athletic Meet of the school held on 07 Dec 08. The athletic flame, like in the past, was lit and brought by Marathon runners from Tulihal Airport area, where the school was initially raised on Oct 07, 1971. The Meet concluded on 10 Dec 08. Maj Gen AK Choudhary SM VSM, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) was the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony. Mrs Madhuri Choudhary graced the occasion with her benign presence. Raman House bagged Overall Champion Trophy.
VISIT  TO BOSE INSTITUTE OF SCIENCES
Twelve cadets of the school were selected for a Training Programme at Bose Institute at Kolkatta from 14 Dec - 22 Dec 08. The programme was to encourage budding scientists from North Eastern States of India, to be inquisitive and promote among them scientific temperament. Cadet N Chingthangkhomba has been selected out of 1200 students for phase II of training programme.

TOWARDS BETTER LIVING

BOREWELL AT HEINGANG HILL
With active support from Public Health and Engineering Dept of the Govt of Manipur, the school found a source for potable drinking water at Heingang Hill. A project to lay down water pipeline at the cost of Rs. 47 lacs has been approved by the State Govt.
BLACK TOPPING OF INTERNAL ROADS
The internal roads measuring 3.5kms were virtually non-existent. The work costing Rs. 33 lacs was commenced by PWD in Dec 08 and completed by mid-January.
RENOVATION OF DORMITORIES & CADETS’ MESS

The State Govt has initiated work costing Rs. 67 lacs. for replacement of CGI roofing, false ceiling and flooring of dormitories and Cadets’ Mess. Fifty percent of the work has been completed and remaining work is in    progress.   This   is   the   first   ever   mega   project undertaken by the Govt. of Manipur to provide new look to the school.

DEDICATED POWER LINE FROM VIP GRID
The State Govt has prepared a project costing Rs. 30 lacs for 11 KVA dedicated power line covering six kms to provide uninterrupted power supply to the school. The project has already been sanctioned by the State Govt.
CONSTRUCTION OF WATER RESERVOIR AND EXTENSION OF DORMITORY
The Govt of Manipur has started work on construction of one of the biggest water reservoirs in this region. A dormitory   is  also  being   extended  to  decongest  the existing accommodation of the cadets. The total project cost is Rs. one crore.

CAMPUS NEWS

DOMESTIC LIBRARY
A library in domestic area was opened in the school premises in Sept 08 in order to inculcate reading habits among the families/children of the staff.
STAFF CLUB MEET
Staff Club get-together was held on 16 Nov 08. Staff and family members displayed their talent which made the evening highly entertaining. Ladies and children had fun and frolic by participating in a variety of games on the occasion. Jazz band from Assam Rifles added colour to the festive mood.

The school bade farewell to one of the senior most teachers Mr S Ravichandran who had been working in the school since Jul 1991 on his transfer to Sainik School Purulia.
OBITUARY
Mr Phurailatpam Imo Sharma, father of Ph Joyshankar Sharma, Asst Master Social Science expired on 21 Oct 08. Also Mrs. P.L. Acharya, mother of Mr. L.I. Acharya, Hostel Superintendent passed away on 1 Nov 08. May the departed souls rest in peace.
